Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick Review

It’s Friday, the sun is out and people are flocking to the lake, park and beaches. It’s the perfect weather to break out some bold lip color and pucker up for those duck-faces selfies. To help get your pout close-up ready, Mary Kay has released 8 remarkable new pigments and their first ever cushion gel formula. Although the range is modest, the color isn’t! The selection includes vibrant pink and coral, mid tone berry, neutral apricot and mauve, rich autumn red and two nudes - one light and one deep.

From left to right: Bashful You, Midnight Red, Powerful Pink, Always Apricot, Crushed Berry, Poppy Please, Rich Truffle, Mauve Moment

I have a lot of Mary Kay lipsticks but they definitely hit it out of the park with this collection! The sleek packaging adorned with cute medallions is definitely trendier and the clear tops help to locate your faves quickly.

The bright stay-true shades are designed with silica microspheres that embed and retain color on the lips resulting in longer wear with less fading, transfer and touch-ups. The full-coverage pigmentation is exquisite and easily buildable with soft focus enhancers that scatter light and blur the appearance of minor imperfections.

The lush, creamy texture is infused with moisturizing sunflower and jojoba oil for excellent glide and lightweight comfortable color with no feathering or bleeding. For those who are a bit hesitant to wear matte formulas for fear of dryness, you won’t have any issues with these conditioning hues. The lipsticks provide the vivacity and pureness of matte pigment with a subtle touch of shine for radiance and dimension.

For a softer effect you can simply blot away the top layer of shine and because the pigment can be blended and smudged, I also use the Mauve and Apricot shades as blush for a little pop of coordinating cheek color! I love how supple and softening the formula is but make sure not to leave them out in the heat as they may sweat.

The colors are  pretty, popular and trendy but it would be nice to see a bit more eccentricity to draw in the new generation of beauty addicts experimenting with purples, teal and even blue. That being said elegant hues are still wonderful, classic and more wearable for everyday life. Most of the lipsticks are flattering on all complexions and transition beautifully into next season.

The lipsticks retail for $21.00 each at marykay.ca or through independent consultants and will be available August 18th.

  1. How do I place an order as a mary Kay consultant to get these?

    1. Do you want to place an order as a consultant to sell these products or are you looking to buy them for personal use? I am not a Mary Kay Consultant myself, I write for them to preview their new products but I do not sell them so I am unaware of the exact process. If you are already working with the company you may want to contact them directly or get in touch with the people who signed you up. Check out the website, you may be able to find the details you are looking for or just do a search for their number or email.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  2. I would love to sample these. The colours look really nice. I hope that they last a long time. It is so hard to find a long lasting lipstick that is not drying!

    1. I know what you mean Sarah, have you tried using a lip primer underneath to prolong wear and lock in moisture? This particular lipstick formula is not drying but for the ones that are, a primer works great. I like the one from MAC, Clarins and Too Faced.
